Grants officer position available

The Grants Officer is dually responsible for the Foundation’s Green Access grantmaking portfolio and the Foundation’s grants management activities. The Grants Officer reports to the Director and works alongside the Grantee Advocate to ensure high quality service and support of the Foundation’s grantees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees Green Access grantmaking (75%)

  • Recommends and implements strategy for Green Access grantmaking and the Foundation’s involvement in related movement building.
  • Works with possible grantee organizations to determine how grant support/partnership will further the impact of the organization’s efforts.
  • Conducts due diligence on grant requests.
  • Presents grantee recommendations for trustee consideration.
  • Works with staff colleagues to monitor grantee progress through meaningful contact and site visits; provides appropriate assistance and advice to grantee.
  • Helps shape and maintain grants program budget.
  • Recommends opportunities for community collaboration connected to grantmaking.
  • Seeks educational and professional development opportunities; keeps abreast of sector developments which may impact work.
  • Establishes collegial connections with other environmental funders to share sector information, strategies, and collaborative opportunities.
  • Serves as in-house thought leader on green and sustainability issues in the Kapor Klein community of organizations.

Manages grantmaking records (20%)

  • Works with IT Director to maintain appropriate database of grants requested and awarded.
  • Compiles and tracks incoming grant requests and distributes to appropriate staff.
  • Generates grant agreements and makes check requests for payments. Sends to grantees.
  • Tracks and reports multi-year payments to grantees.
  • Compiles and provides grant tracking reports for trustees and staff.
  • Processes discretionary grant requests and payments.
  • Documents and updates grantmaking procedures.

Other (5%)

  • Continually learns and applies best practices in grantmaking and grants management.
  • Seeks and secures opportunities for professional development and program area self-education.
  • Writes and contributes biweekly posts to the Foundation’s blog.
  • Exemplifies the Foundation’s values when representing the Foundation to the outside world and to colleagues in the Kapor Klein community.
  • Other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum five years leadership experience with/in nonprofit organizations.
  • Significant and evolving knowledge of environmental issues as they affect people of color and low-income communities.
  • Exceptionally organized and detail oriented.
  • Deep understanding of how race, gender, and class impact public policy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
  • Excellent writing, research, diplomacy, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently AND collaboratively with a positive attitude and high standards.
  • Significant understanding of nonprofit sector dynamics.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in relevant field preferred.
